Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 10:28:36 -0400 (EDT) From: To: nycgoth-l@necronomi.com Subject: Look At Me! I can't keep my big mouth shut, so I'd better post a re-intro [1] now. My name is Alexia, and as most people know I'm a big old poseur. Short attention span and all that, I can't keep up the semblance of being a "goth", a "hippie", a "scorching fag hag", or even "wealthy young man about town" for very long. But, I've always felt a certain draw to this whole goth phenomenon, maybe just because I get to meet people who are even pastier in complexion than I. ;) It would be pointless to try and describe what I look like. If you know me, you know me. If you don't, maybe you've seen me performing at Heroes (in January), yo-yoing at the Miss Gothic NYC pageant (last November), buzzing about Byzantium (earlier this year), or prancing about half-nekkid at Click + Drag (the past 3 years). I am a tad on the social butterfly side, and prefer not to get too close to club acquaintances, unless I deem it "safe", i.e., little or no drama will come out of the friendship. I tend to like to drink (and drink and drink) with dramatic people, but I have a hard time talking on the phone or going shopping with them. Avoiding senseless drama is my way of keeping my sanity and cutting down on the premature wrinkles (I already have enough to worry about with the chain-smoking.). I've used the name Narcissa on the 'net since 1993 or '94, when I discovered Usenet. Back then I was subscribed to alt.gothic, a britcom ng and an 'Evil Dead' ng. My college buddy suggested the name Narcissa, as I was fond of saying, 'I'm so vain, Narcissus ain't got nothin' on me!' I never use the name IRL, because that would just be silly. I am truly evil, because I work in advertising. I even have a degree in it. I am a 'know-it-all', which is why you will see me chime in with my two cents worth of trivial knowledge time and time again. I have come to accept this about myself and to find it endearing. So should you. ;) Although I listen to all sorts of music when I am at clubs, in bars, or even at the gym (I was forced to listen to Shania Twian and Britney Spears all through my abs class yesterday), when I am playing my own music, I listen mainly to Prince. I sometimes mix that up with Madonna, Mindless Self Indulgence, The Velvet Mafia, The Austin Powers Soundtrack (#1), Jamiroquai, and more Prince. I have recently moved in with my Charles (I hate the word 'boyfriend'), so I am also exposed to a great deal of Dead Kennedys, Ministry, KMFDM, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, The Clash, and endless rants by Jello Biafra and William S. Burroughs (Goddammit, Burroughs, shut up already!). I read fiction almost exclusively, except for Suck.com, if that can be deemed non-fiction. I haven't read much lately, and the lamest thing of all is that I am reading _The Queen of the Damned_ right now because I never finished it the first two times I tried, and it was sitting around. I've read every published Stephen King book, and I also enjoy Joyce Carol Oates, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Dave Barry, and Elmore Leonard. I am subscribed to alt.gothic.fashion, but rarely post considering that I don't care how to bleach black dye out or how to get your face its whitest. That's enough about me, I suppose, if one can ever know enough about Alexia. ;) [1]I must have missed the post which deemed the re-introductions on Monday a certainty rather than an idea in the works. Thanks for clarifying, Carrie. O{+> Alexia ~ narcissa@narcissa.com Everything is Finally Here! http://www.narcissa.com
