From: cmc31@cornell.edu X-Sender: cmc31@postoffice.mail.cornell.edu Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 18:41:33 -0400 To: Subject: Me too! Me too! (reintroduction) Howdy folks, *ahem* in preparation for this second introduction (and yes, I know, I haven't posted in forever, but hey...who can pass up a chance to talk about themselves?) I read over my first introduction. I mentioned cows a lot. And the Backstreet Boys. I'll refrain this time. I'm 22, I'm still stuck in the wilderness that is Ithaca. I actually never lived in NYC (I'm from Jersey) but I went to high school in the Bronx and spent most of my free time wandering around the Village. I'm in Ithaca for school (about to start my senior year at Cornell, still an English major, still focusing in creative writing, much to the chagrin of my parents, who see their hopes of a doctor and/or lawyer in the family slipping away, hehe) since no one in their right mind would be in Ithaca by choice :) There is a surprisingly large scene up here, and a surprising mix as well (that is, most of the freak sub-groups hang out with each other. That's damn cool.) During my free time (of which I tons of lately...yay summers!) I go swimming in the gorges, dance until I collapse at 80's night and g/i night, and read a lot. Which brings me to... Some of my current favorite authors: Banana Yoshimoto, Robert Jordan, Hawthorne, Nabokov (reading _Pale Fire_ right now), and Tolkien. I do not like Thomas Pynchon, at all. Musicwise: hm...I could let this get out of control and write for pages and pages, but I'll try and restrain myself...favorite bands: Sebadoh, the Cure (sooooo happy that I caught them at the Jones Beach show), Iris, Depeche Mode, New Order, When in Rome, Billy Idol (really, ANYTHING 80's), Dropkick Murphys, the Pixies, Fading Colors, Ministry, NIN, Tool, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Numan, black tape for a blue girl, Underworld, the Chemical Brothers, Buddy Holly, and, of course, Nirvana. Basically, I'll listen to pretty much anything as long as it's not "Achy Breaky Heart" or "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" (Yeah, well, I think my pitchfork's pretty sexy too. Woohoo.) I don't know if I would strictly define myself as "goth"....mostly because I've met a lot of people here (Ithaca, not the list) who take being goth to SUCH an extreme, that they can't do anything else. I mean, I love the music and I love dancing to it, and I like most of the people I've met in the scene, but I can't make it THE way of life. If someone has a problem with me going to g/i night on Sundays, and then going to the techno/electronica shows on Thursdays because that's 'not goth enough' then they can naff right off. It's pretty silly that they can sit there and spout off about how cruel it is that no one accepts them for the way they are, and yet, can't accept the fact that people DO try other/new things! Random paragraph of random information: I like pink. I'm 22, but look like I'm 15. I used to have butt length purple anime extensions, until a scary Asian fetishist came up to me and asked me if I would let him feed me rice while whipping him (I was 15 at the time, and looked 12. Ick.). I have two parakeets. Right now, there is a cardboard cutout of a yak hanging over my desk. I'm fixated on flowers, because I rarely get them. I sew a lot, because nothing ever fits me right. I probably spend entirely too much time on the computer (but hey, at least I get paid for it.) I dance the Ithaca bounce. Bok choy is one of the joys of my life. So's chocolate. Petticoats rock my world. I hate people who ruin endings of movies. Also slugs. Slugs are evil. I love driving in thunderstorms and running around in the rain. I like coffee, a LOT. I read alt.gothic.fashion religiously. I'm chronically single, because Ithaca boys are Just No Good. I'm not as bitter as I sound :) Finding black mesh with silver glitter designs on it on sale at the fabric store makes me very, very happy. Right on, I think that's enough about me...feel free to email and say hello or whatever. -Carol
