From: "Yoshi23" To: "NYC Goth-L" Subject: Introduction II Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 23:36:10 -0400 X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Importance: Normal I gather that protocol dictates an re-introduction of sorts; thusly I shall re-present myself. I am Yoshi. I originated in Chicago nearly 25 years ago. My birthdate designates me as a Leo with Scorpio rising; those who follow astrology will hence assume me to be an evil bastard. I do not really see the point in trying to disprove that. I spent most of my youth in Europe, returning to begin my university studies. Currently I find myself pursuing my doctorate in molecular cell biology. Ideologically (or dogmatically, according to some with whom I have argued) I find myself entranced by the roles which the biological realities and evolutionary history of our species influence the development of cultures and the power structures associated with them. I have no faith in any god or other spiritual creation of our minds, though I do find them to be interesting concoctions well suited to soothe the needs for legitimization in their cultures. I am interested in the current changes in the nature of power as the globe shifts into a postindustrial economy, and what new concepts of cultural reality this may bring. I believe that most people are peons, do not wish to be more than peons, and enjoy the delusions of free will and the ego masturbation that a capitalist democracy brings. I also think that this is a good thing because all bodies need flesh, and people provide the flesh in which ideas live and evolve. I respect intelligence, conceptual versatility and the desire to understand fundamental and illusionary realities. I consider retreating from this into an angst filled lyric to be a pathetic shirking of the potential of sentience. Musically I have somewhat eclectic tastes, although I have a tendency to lean towards industrial music with an electro twist. Frontline Assembly as well as the side-projects associated with the group rank among my favorites. In film I must say that Dangerous Liaisons is a masterpiece of wit skillfully portrayed, while Viggo Mortensen's Lucifer in The Prophecy is beautiful. The books I am currently reading are P.J. O'Rourke's _All the Trouble in the World_ and V.J. Allan's _Protein Localization by Fluorescence Microscopy_. I relish the opportunities to meet people and learn of their experiences. Deceitfulness and disloyalty are cardinal sins among my friends. I consider my word to be a measure of myself. Yoshi
