From: Ph0ebus13@aol.com Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2000 21:54:47 EDT Subject: ph0ebus breaks with own philosophy, posts introduction To: NYCgoth-L@necronomi.com Hail and well met! This whole intro thing makes me realize that I've never posted one. Ever. Anywhere. Probably because when I first started using the internet, back before the great Silicon Rush of the mid-nineties, there was no need for such things, because there were, like, four of us. Back in the days when a heavy traffic day on alt.gothic was 16 posts, and you struggled to read the six posts a day on alt.vampyres. The year of our lord, 1991. But let me back up a bit. I've always had an interest in all things dark and dreary, and dead. I still have most of my cool old toys and books from "back in the day". My life-sized build-it-yourself glow-in-the-dark human skull, the monsters, the mummies, etc. ad infinitum. I first discovered goth in the musical sense (and became aware of the genre, etc.) in 1990. In Buffalo, New York. In a Country-Western-themed watering hole called Sutters Saloon, right across the street from my dorm. Where you could get 32 oz. beers for a buck. They had The Sisters of Mercy's Floodland on the jukebox, and it changed the direction of my life. Sad, eh? Started hanging out at the Edge, the Icon, and my all-time fave club, The Continental. Got an internet account (see above), and spent the next three years establishing ties to New York Goths (Charles, Cliff, Slutboy, Natalia, MissJanette, Melody, etc. ad infinitum redux). October 1, 1994: The first ever NYC net.goth meet at Don Hills. Quite a smashing success...I still have the sign in sheet! Cliff forms necronomi.com, and I am put on as a charter member. Been here ever since. Oh, did I mention my brief career as DJ at Sanctuary in Brooklyn, back in 97-98? One of my favorite times to recollect. Musical interests are so frickin' weird (read: typical) that I'll only taunt you with a few: BAUHAUS! (sorry), Death in June, Nick Cave (and any project he's ever been afiliated with, ever!), Mors Syphilitica, Alien Sex Fiend, Diamanda Galas, Diskowalkuren, Magenta, etc., etc. Career-wise, got my BA in psychology at Univerity at Buffalo; got my Masters in Clinical Psychology at the New School for Social Research in Manhattan; worked with the mentally ill as both line-worker and advocate for the last four years, and currently work at one of the largest mental health agencies in the city as a housing consultant, helping homeless mentally ill men, women and families to re-integrate into society and rebuild their lives. Well, enough about me. Without this intro handy, I guess I'll have to carry my American Depress (tm) card to prove my identity. Take care, -ph0ebus "If I cannot move the heavens I will disturb the underworld..." http://hometown.aol.com/ph0ebus13/belalugosisdead.html http://hometown.aol.com/unclelewis/fridaythe13ththeseries.html
