From: SkyCries@aol.com Date: Thu, 20 Jul 2000 20:00:57 EDT Subject: Re-Introduction (it seems SO popular now!) To: NYCgoth-L@necronomi.com Well... i'll start by saying "Hello." My name is Joey Polaroid (formarly known as Joey Guillotine but dubbed Joey Polaroid by New York's very own Roman Holiday.) I have been on the NYC Goth list for about 4 years now (Back with the original mediators.) I'm originally from Suburban Long Island where i grew up and attended high school. I grew tired of living in that kind of setting as a young, androgynous goth/punk/WWII soldier and then moved to Manhattan (which i always frequented while living on Long Island. Such places as the original Batcave, The Bank, The Pyramid, Limelight, etc..) That was only about a year ago when i was 18, and i moved to Manhattan to attend the School Of Visual Arts. I'm now 19 and am entering into my second year of art school. I live in Manhattan now in Gramercy Park. While going to school, i've been working as an artist, a model, and appearing in Films. Another source of income is my makeup. I am a makeup artist and have worked with such companies as MAC and Chanel, and have also worked in Patricia Fields as a makeup artist. For now, though, i've mainly been working as a makeup artist for professional fashion photographers including New York's Sandra Savic and Miami's Brody Baker. Musically, as well as aesthetically, my tastes have changed drastically. My fashions as well as musical taste are mainly inspired by glossy looks and sounds of late 70's and early 80's (mainly '79 - '84). I listen to a bands such as Lime, Fun Fun, Giorgio Moroder, Sylvester, Trans-X, Amanda Lear, Pink Project, etc. My musical taste has strangely evolved from goth such as Virgin Pruines, The Bolshoi, Sex Gang Children, Christian Death, etc. then to apocalyptic folk such as Death In June, Strength Through Joy, Current 93, Aryan Aquarians, Kapo!, Non, etc. then to the more electronic feel of Synth Pop like De/Vision, Wolfsheim, Camouflage, S.P.O.C.K, >AiBoFoRcEn! and then to earlier influences such as Erasure, Dead Or Alive, Bronski Beat, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Strawberry Switchblade, Visage, Ultravox and other New Wave of the like... All of which lead to my interest in early electronic music and computer disco and hi-nrg music. My major at the school of visual arts is photography, though i do not limit my art to only that medium. I also work in Paint, Film/video, sculpture, design, computer art, digital photography/video, installation, preformance, writing, really anything. Well, so much for my random rambling. I just thought i'd re-introduce myself. XOXO Joey Polaroid http://www.brianmills.com/joeypolaroid/skies.jpg
