This is a slightly modified re-post of my last (3rd) intro here. It seems retarded for me to keep re-writing these things. enjoy. I've been here since the beginning, and I've written 3 intros in that time. But, since I've been quiet lately; and since I keep meeting list members who draw a blank stare when I introduce myself, I think it's time for a reacquainting. Time to dispel some misconceptions as well. If you're actively out and about, you've probably caught sight of my somewhere. Not to be overly self-absorbed, but there just aren't that many guys with (longish) red hair running around the scene. As a result, I get a lot of people recognizing me who I require some reminding of their identity. It's terribly embarrassing, but I am getting better at it. There are photos of me at my website [URL found below] and at nycgoth.com. I used to be found Fridays at Byzantium where i DJ'ed, sometimes Saturdays at Albion/Batcave. Always at Contempt!, [because I light the place] sometimes at LBV or other nights. I've also picked up a bit of notoriety locally from my musical ventures. I've been playing keyboards in an electro-industrial band called Evulva. i used to play guitar in pieceMachine, a rock/electro band for several years. I've remixed a few artists, including Voltaire, and The Missing. There's also my own endeavor, Anathema Device. I've just been writing songs so far, but i've finished an album's worth of great stuff, and now i'm trying to figure out what to do with it. It's sort of my priority right now. (as well as my girlfriend, Lynette) I have several MP3's on my site demonstrating the range I'm going for. Music isn't just a hobby. I've actually managed to end up doing it for a living. I'm one of those unsung artists who create music for TV and radio commercials, film trailers, network IDs, etc... Some of my work will haunt for months. Some of it is exceedingly lame. But, I get to go into a recording studio every day to wreak some havoc, and at the end of the year, I get to write "Composer" on my 1040, so I'm happy with it. Please don't mistake me for a "jingle" writer. I don't often write those charmingly irritating little jaunts that exude a dated sensibility. I'd like to, because they pay like a motherfucker. Instead, I do more like 30-second film scoring, or "hip/downtown" *sarcasm* rhythm beds. All of the above doesn't leave me with much free time. Which partially is the reason for my absence from list banter recently. The other just seems to be my timing. I guess a lot of people post from work, because when I get home, and log in, a topic has been introduced, and 30 responses have been posted. I kind of feel like "*ugh* What's the point?" So, that's really a core bit on me. I can give you plenty more. Most of it you can find on my site, so I'd rather you just reference that if you care. My personal page (number "4") is looking slightly dated, but it's still reasonably accurate. Silly bits to conform to list-intro norm might include my favorite music to listen to. That gets tricky since I don't have absolute favorites. I see what's good in what's good, and what's bad in what's bad, IM(h)O. [and I'm not a Libra, astrology freaks...a Capricorn] That aside, I really enjoy NiN, KMFDM, Tori Amos, Rammstein, Wolfsheim, Mindless Self Indulgence, Hanzel und Gretyl, Hate Dept., Portishead, Apoptygma Bezerk and Faith & the Muse lately. But I have pretty broad tastes. It's mood-dependent. I'm often mistaken for being angry, or severe-looking. It's not intentional. When I am relaxed, and in not engaged in something specific, that's what I look like. I'm really very down-to-earth, and not prone to judging, or being maudlin. I'm not full-on all of the time. But, when I turn it on, I'm "on". I'm very honest. Anything I say when you're not around, I have no problem saying to your face. Since I don't usually deliver the bad observations with vitriol, most who know me don't get terribly offended by such remarks. Like I said, I don't really judge very harshly. I think people are capable of such a range of actions, and attitudes that I don't take much we do too seriously. Another thing you may want to know... I don't smoke. I don't drink. I don't do any drugs. (I don't feel that caffeine, sugar, or ephedrine [on occasion] count) I never have. There's no high moral ground for any of this. I was just never interested. Some people are stupefied by this, but whatever. I do like to be "on" when I'm out [hence the ephedrine], but I like the mood and personality I've developed myself. I'm high on life, baby. The point is that I don't really care if you do or not. This is that "non-judgmental" schtick again. I was a DC punk at 14, [that was 14 years ago for those of you that are counting] and have been exposed to it ever since then. Most people I know do at least one, and more often all of the above activities. They're usually not lessened by it in my eyes. Just please don't burn me with your cigarette by being careless, or I WILL make you regret it. I work very hard. I appreciate it. I don't understand it much when people aren't moved to strive for the things they really want out of life. That may be a Capricorn thing. Regardless, it's a "me" thing. I relate to a lot of Ayn Rand's work. It's basically idealistic hero-worship, but that's what is more interesting to me anyway. There's enough fucking "reality" in reality itself. No need for "Cops", Jerry Springer, or "The Bridges of Madison County" in my life. I'd think in a way, that should be "gothic", since an identifying behaviour, in my mind, is the fascination with greater-than-norm ideas, ideals, role models, images, etc... Of course, that's a very subjective statement, and not a definition of the average scenester. On that note, I've spent too much time on this, given my current obligations. I hope this has been at least entertaining or enlightening for you. kerry -- ======================================================= Kerry J.
