I've been subscribed to this list since the beginning of 99. I had contemplated joining in 95, but the fear of 100s of messages a day kept me away. I was going to be lazy and post my original intro but some things have changed. I had back surgery in march and it has really set me back a bit. I am now getting to the point that I can go to the gym again. Hooray! Its great to be able to walk again. Before I forget, my name is Larry from new brunswick, city of broken dreams. I call myself that to avoid confusion with the other larry's of the list ( and because I have not come up with a kickass nickname). Lets see 31, cancer, male, 6'2", 230 , long blonde hair goatee etc., like to wear black (haha). My dress is mostly in the vein of jeans, T-shirts, and leather although most don't fit now. Being semi immobile for a year has its consequences. I'm probably too lazy to spend hours getting dressed up to go out, but some of the people I've seen may get me to spend more time and money on the wardrobe. I am a graduate student at Rutgers in Cell and developmental bio and I work for Johnson and Johnson. Hopefully I'll graduate at the end of the summer. I'm pagan, Asatru, which has the norse gods and goddesses as its pantheon. I have a motorcycle which doesn't work (sniff). It can be hard to find a trustworthy mechanic. Lets see, musically, hmmm... without music I would quickly go off the deep end. Genre wise my tastes vary widely from classical to country (Johnny Cash rocks!) and much in between. Listwise SOM is right up there, FotN is playing now (revelations), Bauhaus, Switchblade Symphony, Kitty, Black Tape, Tapping the vein, Christian Death, FLA, etc. etc. One reason I joined is to be introduced to new music. Most of this stuff, MTV etc. wouldn't touch with a 10 foot cattle prod. I must say in this regard the list has been a success for me. Where else would I be introduced to Mindless self indulgence? (thanks alexia) I really have not been out to clubs much. School, work etc. hold me back. I did get to Byzantium a couple of times and loved it. Met some great people, cool space (although NYC drink prices are shall we say ridiculous) and then it closed. What happened? I was planning on making it a regular night. Oh well. Distance from the city is also a detriment. But I do promise to come out more. Once I've gotten the 6 incomplete classes out of the way. Literature wise most of my reading has been biological journals and such although I have been forcing myself to read for my enjoyment as well. Just finished do androids dream of electric sheep and I am working on martian time slip. Thanks for the info people, that was a good thread. Mostly did/will read SF, fantasy, history (particularly military) pagan religion/spirituality and science. I have read some vampire and am looking for more horror- gothic- good vampire reads. Any suggestions? Comic wise Lenore JTHM squee hellblazer etc. Movie wise Bladerunner, Star wars trilogy, saving private ryan, Braveheart, Gladiator, the Patriot, Sparticus etc., you know heroic epics. I do enjoy seeing movies that are out of the main stream like Man bites dog. I am open to movie suggestions as well. TV wise the history channel rules! Simpsons ,family guy, futurama, MST3K X-files(not so much any more) are staple fodder. Miami vice ( I know but i still love it) Hobbies/ interests not necessarily "goth" are varied. I used to RPG (vampire, cuthulu, star wars etc.) but have no time now. I do play wargames and have an ever increasing collection of lead figures that will some day get painted. I like to brew. I shoot competitively and am a certified firearms instructor (let me know if anyone wants to learn). I used to paint, draw, write etc. but 4 years of art school ( mason gross) has really beat down my creative urge. I have been getting into wood carving and the other week I worked the first steel on my new anvil. Any blacksmiths out there? The bane of my time management skills is strategic computer games ( moo, panzer general, etc.). I am getting back into astronomy now that I may finally be able to afford the telescope I dreamed of as a kid. Riding motorcycles when they work and fixing them when they don't. Surfing the web and seeing all it has to offer. I used to rock climb, I'll have to see if the urges come back. Political, philosophical, scientific discussions. Good beer, mead or single malt scotch. Campfires and walks in the woods. But now I am beginning to babble, if you want more, email. Larry in new brunswick
