To: NYCGOTH-L@necronomi.com Cc: mathiasw@cix.compulink.co.uk Well, I guess it's time I did an introduction, seeing as we've all been asked to do a new one. Admittedly I'm so far behind reading the list that I haven't read that bit yet, but never mind. I'm half-English, half-American and half-biscuit. I originally come from a little village in the middle of England (Bauhaus country, basically). The first Goth music I heard was Bauhaus while I was at school, when Bela was released. I liked it then and have done ever since. This admission therefore places my age as not even a geri-goth, but a positively crumbly-goth at the age of 35 or so. Apart from that, I'm not going to do the 'my favourite bands' list, other than to say that I have a preference for the old classics. I'm also quite keen on films, and have a huge collection back in England. Favourite films are by Cronenberg, Carpenter or Hammer, plus of course a few of the obligatory classics like Heathers and the first two Addams Family films. I tried to watch the last one, but it was truly appalling. If I go out in the evening I like bars and clubbing. I'm really annoyed I had tickets to the last night of Mother and I missed it, due to missing the plane. Damn. I guess for the rest of the year I shall be at LBV, Interzone and something at Limelight. We shall have to see. For the last 6 years or so I have worked for a variety of long-suffering banks, who put up with my bizarre behaviour in return for the occasional startling insight. As a result of this, I have to at least appear to conform - no random dyed hair or visible piercings. Still, at least I get to travel a lot. At the moment, I split my time between London and New York, although it looks as though I shall be spending most of my time in NY for the foreseeable future. I'm currently living on 34th Street, which is convenient for the office and my girlfriend Allison, as she's only 4 blocks away. It also means that she doesn't need to worry about the condition of my apartment, which is normally slightly untidy. The rest of the time we're together and I look after her, feed her cats, mix her margherhitas and try to teach her to capitalise correctly. When I'm not doing 'Goth' things, I can usually be found on a mountainbike, snowboard, skis, skateboard, motorbike or anything else that goes fast with a reasonable chance of an accident. Amazingly, I have so far survived all incidents with no injuries, although there are a few friends who are still receiving medical treatment. It was, with hindsight, a bad idea to ride bicycles down the olympic downhill ski run. I suppose I should have a website - I'll stick on up at http://www.cix.co.uk/~mathiasw/ sooner or later!
