(pant, pant. i think i just won a run-on sentence award...) really, i'm not a menace to society. well, not much, the "stop bitching, start a revolution" bumper sticker on my monitor not- withstanding. now, i'm supposed to tell y'all something about myself, right? well, let's start with the basics: 27, geek, degree in philo- sophy, generally quiet and introspective with occasional bouts of silliness and/or vitriol (yes, sometimes even at the same time). religion: holographic pantheist with a pinch of zen; ask me some time over a snakebite or midori sour, it'd take far too long now. aesthetic: minimalism. well, unless i'm feeling like playing dress-up. then it's all-out. single, and for the first time since my last relationship ended (and you don't want to know how long ago that was) actually pretty cool with that. i'm much less a goth qua goth than a self-styled freak with goth friends and inclinations who enjoys the company of other freaks, of whatever stripe. don't let that frighten you off, though. i've always been something of a subculture junkie. i started hanging out in the then-local punk scene in junior high (you'd be surprised at how punk south dakota can be) and was listening to bauhaus and joy division before i even knew there was a category (albeit however loose) for that kind of thing. irregular reader and infrequent poster on alt.gothic, absolute net.junkie, with the dsl line and web/mail/newsserver sitting next to my right knee to prove it. i'm the webmaster for the tori amos newsgroup's website, and am in the process of adding several friends' sites to my hosted repertoire as well. i'm a sometimes writer, occasional musician and infrequent painter; avid reader and paper-and-pencil gamer, starved for playing since i moved up here from florida last summer. (iow, if you have a group running and have space for another player/gm, or want to start a new group, do please say howdy.) i'm currently employed by a company utterly clueless when it comes to the care and feeding of geeks, and not particularly freak-friendly to boot; i start a new gig with a very freak friendly joint in manhattan next week, and hence should only retain my natural hair colour a short while longer. i live in nyack, and hope to change that by the end of the year. (advance notice for anyone looking to move 'round then...) i don't get into the city for clubbing and what-not as often as i'd like; as one of the consultants for my current employer who only comes on-site occasionally puts it, "being there is the biggest soul-sucking drain i've ever seen." when i get home, my first inclination is to curl up with my cat and hide. once i start working in the city, and shortly after that, move onto the big, scary island, that should all change handily. musical tastes are nontrivially eclectic (though i'm beginning to fear that the word eclectic is becoming dangerously cliche). current cool things include julian cope, skinny puppy and pwei. always good things include tori amos, ani d, tool, nin, fugazi, elvis costello, the cure (especially circa seventeen seconds & pornography, though i have this inexplicable soft spot for wild mood swings ), dead can dance, pulp, ben folds five, joy division, jawbreaker, juliana hatfield, boingo, bauhaus... add to that a touch of blues, a smattering of classical and a few pieces of native american and indian music and you might find yourself with a loose mental picture of a solid third of my cd rack. the rest ... is a mish-mash, some of which i'm not -about- to admit to. ;> and with that i'll close before i -really- start to ramble. --rosser, well, i warned you, didn't i?
