For those of you who don't already know me, I'm Shana Elyse Skaletsky. I live in the East Village, right above Stingy Lulu's, with my two cats. I'm originally from Chicago, but I haven't lived there for about 5 years. I've been on this list for 6 years, and due to recent events, my posts have become considerably less infrequent (as well as my club-going). What else? I graduated from NYU in August of 1998 with a degree in journalism, and two minors (french lit and jewish history). In May 1999, I started law school at Cardozo School of Law on Fifth Avenue; I have three semesters left, and I will be incredibly happy when this hellish part of my academic career has ended. It's likely that I will be going into criminal defense, probably with an organization like the Legal Aid Society or New York County Defenders. I currently work at Kaplan Educational Centers as an SAT teacher, and I'm interning down at the NYC Criminal Court for a judge over the summer. In my not-so-abundant spare time, I'm involved with writing, mostly literary criticism and language-oriented poetry. However, I occasionally do some editorial work (for the most recent, refer to the Jello Biafra article in the Summer issue of 2600). Oh, yeah, that whole hacking thing, I play with computers, but I really think phones are neat. I was the media coordinator for last weekend's hacker convention (H2K) at the Hotel Pennsylvania. I also do a lot of social activism on behalf of PETA, the ASPCA, National Lawyers Guild, and Planned Parenthood. It's likely that I'll be down in Philly for the RNC on July 30, protesting with the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Rights. The favorites list: Cocteau Twins, SoM, Fela Kuti, Burt Bacharach, Dusty Springfield, Jacques Derrida, Frank O'Hara, John Ashberry, Joan Didion, S.Y. Agnon. Yehuda Amichai, most late-night movies on Lifetime, Dr. Zhivago, the Godfather, Will and Grace (art imitates life), Meet the Press, oh, I forgot to mention my love for Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and the Supremes. I'm not that interesting these days; probably because I'm trying to drink less. That whole sexuality thing just confuses the crap out of me--I don't think I like *anyone*. And I have to wear a suit to work (being remanded is no fun), so I'm not a very visible goth. But I was, once upon a time. :) xoxo shana
