Otherworldly Waxes is one of the most reputable occult shops in Manhattan, in the not-so-subtle guise of a specialty candle shop. Its proprietess, Dr. Catherine Riggs-Bergeson, combines her knowledge of clinical psychotherapy and a broad diversity of magical traditions to provide a mature and healing magic, using inscribed seven-day candles as the central element.

The shop itself is rather small and is cramped when more than three clients are inside. One wall of incenses and aromatic herbs in cannisters appears to the right, a shelf of many colored candles, books, and decorative candleholders appears to the left. Essential oils in many varieties are behind the counter, and a squat glass cabinet with tarot and jewelry divides the center of the room.

Though Catherine divides her time between her two stores, (the other being a more spacious version of the same, up near 90th and Amsterdam), all of the clerks are fairly knowledgable and quite friendly. Prices range widely from exotic permenant items at the high end, to very affordable incenses, oils, and candles at the low.
